Regeneration
was established in 1994, and is based in the counties
of Essex and Somerset. We are a voluntary organisation
solely dedicated to supporting people and their families
affected by ataxia. Our other main objectives, are to
raise awareness and understanding of the ataxias and
to fund and support essential research into developing
effective treatments, and management strategies. Ultimatley
our vision and target is to find a cure for the ataxias.
Each of our trustees has a close
family member affected by ataxia. All the administrative
and fundraising tasks are undertaken by the trustees
working with people that have ataxia and their families
and friends. No salaries or fees are paid. All administrative
costs are met by grants that Regeneration receive specifically
for that reason. This means that every penny donated
to Regeneration is used exclusively for the purpose
of which it was intended – to fund research, to
help us to provide care, information and support services
and to help people with ataxia to have the best possible
quality of life.
There are many different types of ataxia and Regeneration is committed to supporting all people affected by the condition. But, being a very small charity, we focus our research and support activities towards helping those people and families affected by Friedreich's ataxia, and other hereditary and progressive forms of ataxia. Find out more about ataxia.
Working jointly with health and
social care professionals, we provide help and a unique
range of integrated support services that are not available
at a local level from anywhere else. In partnership
with our research associates we are also actively involved
in ataxia research, which brings hope for the future.
Over the years we have both supported and awarded a
number of research grants into ataxia treatment, cure
and care. Find
out more about our Research and Support Services.
Regeneration has developed and maintained
links with care professionals with expertise in ataxia.
We are closely supported by a group of advisors that
include scientists, health and social care professionals.
All of our work is funded by charitable
donations. We rely on fundraising and the efforts of
our supporters and volunteers to achieve our goals.
No person or their family should have to face ataxia on their own. If you are affected by ataxia, we are here to help you, please Contact
